Dunbar High School Legacy Fund


The Class of 1965 is giving something back…the legacy lives on!

The newly created Dunbar High School Legacy Fund is a scholarship fund that was started by our class and  is being administered by The Greater Lynchburg Community Trust. This fund gives members of the Class of 1965, other alumni, and friends a vehicle to give something back to Lynchburg in honor of the rich tradition of Dunbar, its alumni, faculty, staff and supporters. Through scholarship grants we will help some  aspiring young people to pursue their dreams.


Each year a group of advisors made up of Dunbar alumni will decide who will receive the scholarship award or awards and in whose honor it will be given. The fund will honor Dunbar alumni and teachers. The advisory group will consult with Lynchburg area high schools to make their annual decisions.

Thanks to the generous donations of several classmates the fund now stands at $13,000 – a good start. Now we really need to get behind this effort and grow the fund to a significant number. The more we put into the fund the more interest and investment income that money will earn and therefore the larger the amount and number of scholarships that can be awarded each year.

Please make the Dunbar High School Legacy Fund part of your annual giving and even make it part of your will or make it a life insurance beneficiary. Our goal is to raise at least $25,000 in the first year. This will generate an annual scholarship award of about $1,250.

All donations are welcome. You can give in your or someone else’s name or you can give anonymously. We welcome donations from all who want to continue the legacy of our great school, its faculty and staff and 'the ideals for which she stands'.
